In the Gospel today, Mary visited her cousin Elizabeth. Both Mary and Elizabeth were pregnant and each of them were carrying a very special baby: Elizabeth would be John the Baptists’ mom and Mary would be Jesus’ mom. God blessed both of these women with these very special children because they were faithful and believed in His plan. Elizabeth said to Mary, “You are blessed, Mary, because you believed the promise God made to you.”
Mary appreciated God and his plan and in return, God showed Mary how much he appreciated her by giving her the greatest blessing of all, making her the mother of Jesus. Mary also appreciated her cousin Elizabeth, who opened her home and welcomed her visit.
Christmas is just a few days away now and you will likely be visiting your extended family. It is important to appreciate how generous our families are during the Christmas season by welcoming us into their homes, offering us food and drinks, and giving us gifts.
It is also important to appreciate the family members we see every day (even if they get on our nerves sometimes). God picked those special people to be our families, he has a plan for each of us and each of our families.
